Pastor Kevin T. Taylor

We Welcome
You To
Israel AME Church

Founded in 1828 in Albany, Israel is the oldest Black church in Upstate New York. It was also a station on the Underground Railroad, a network of the network of people and places offering shelter and aid to enslaved people from the South. Israel’s motto, “Making History and Disciples Since 1828,” is a reference to its historic past and its present emphasis on demonstrating the matchless love of Jesus Christ and drawing people to Him. Israel is pastored by the Rev. Kevin T. Taylor, the shepherd leader since June 2021, who is working diligently to prepare the congregation for its third century of ministry in the Albany community and beyond. Join us for morning worship each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and for Bible Study on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Services are hybrid: in-person by pre-registering and via Zoom or dial (646) 558-8656 and use Meeting ID: 812 8622 8670 and PW: 381379.

A Message from the Pastor

One Sunday morning, a man stood at the edge of the church parking lot—near the dumpster. His clotheswere worn, his beard unkempt, his eyes searching through yesterday’s refuse.Families arriving for worship noticed him. “Oh no,” one woman whispered. “That’s all we need—homelesspeople hanging around here.”A little girl tugged on her father’s sleeve. “But Daddy…” “Don’t stare, honey,” he said, guiding her inside.Moments later, as the choir sang “In His presence there is comfort…” thesanctuary doors opened. The stranger walked down the aisle. Gasps rippledthrough the pews. He carried a torn bag of bottles and cans and set it gentlyon the front pew—the new one. Then, to everyone’s horror, he climbed the steps to the pulpit. And spoke. At first, his voice trembled: “Jesus loves the ones you overlook. He calls the forgotten by name. His gracehas no conditions, and His forgiveness no fine print.”As he spoke, he removed the old jacket, the flannel shirt, the beard. Beneath the disguise stood the pastor. He looked over his stunned congregation. “My friends,” he said quietly, “it’s never too late to change. He isthe Author of change—the One who loved us first, so we could love others at all.”And then he prayed. No sermon followed that morning—but the Word had already been preached

“I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;"
~ John 11:25

Great Is The Lord &
Greatly To Be Praised!

Founded because of social injustice, the AME Church envisions, “At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the AME Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the AME Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and to serve the needy”

AME Church Mission

Our Mission is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people

THE VISION

At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the AME Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the AME Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and to serve the needy. It is also the duty of Church to continue to encourage all members to become involved in all aspects of church training.

THE PURPOSES

The ultimate purposes are:
1 – make available God’s biblical principles,
2 – spread Christ’s liberating gospel, and
3 – provide continuing programs which will enhance the entire social development of all people.

THE OBJECTIVE

In order to meet the needs of every level of the Connection and in every local church, the AME Church shall implement strategies to train all members in: (1) Christian discipleship, (2) Christian leadership, (3) current teaching methods and materials, (4) the history and significance of the AME Church, (5) God’s biblical principles, and (6) social development to which all should be applied to daily living.

A Season of Giving

For God loves a cheerful giver.
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

~ 2nd Corinthians 9:7
